uh...
Not all religions talk about salvation. Sure it's a Christian theme and a dominant theme at that but we're not all clamoring to be saved from something. Not all religions are fear based.

The presence of a life-threat necessitates some sort of "salvation". A person trapped in a burning car, for example, would require some sort of "salvation" if the victim is to survive. Someone mixed up in a life of drugs and alcohol needs "salvation" in the form of intervention/treatment, in order to have a sane life.
I don't know if "salvation" is mentioned outside of Christian teaching. In the Christian sense, all people need to be saved (rescued) from spiritual death; it is that condition of spiritual death that affects the world around us. "Salvation" and "rebirth" are in this sense synonymous.

Salvation from death. The fear of death is a strong force in a person's life. While we cannot avoid physical death (unless you are alive at the rapture and are saved) you can avoid spiritual death. This is what salvation is all about. Jesus said that no one can enter the kingdom of heaven without being reborn. To be reborn you must be forgiven your sins, for God will not allow anyone into the kingdom of heaven that is not covered in the blood of Jesus. All have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. Jesus came to die for our sins, to pay the penalty price that God demands, for there can be no remission of sin without the shedding of innocent blood. This is the gospel of Jesus Christ. All you have to do is believe in the completed work of Jesus at the cross and you are saved---nothing else is required. Accept him into your heart as Lord and Savior and you can have life eternal. Reject Jesus and you will die in hell. I did not make these rules, God did. Accepting Jesus removes the fear of death---even physical death. Jesus loves you.

I agree with Preacher above. Here are some scriptures you should think about:
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The "famous" John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son [Christ] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Spirit... spiritual death
Soul... spiritual bondage
Body... corruption
Salvation is another word for deliverance.
Salvation happened at the cross and is applied to every believer.
It is a ongoing process that is completed when one goes to be with the Lord forever
