Yes, I've seen this behavior. I've seen my dog raise the hair on the back of his neck and growl at something he sees in the hallway. I've seen my cats go tearing out of a room in fright. But you know how cats are, sometimes they do that just for the hell of it. But I think they definitely can sense things with their keen senses that we can't sense with our limited senses.

Cats are more sensitive to movement than we are, being consummate predators. Cats only have sharp vision up close, at a distance they are rather nearsighted...but they have a MUCH wider pupil than we do, allowing a lot more light in. Additionally, they have a tapetum lucidem, a reflective layer in their eye (which is why their eyes seem to glow at night), that reflects light back into their retinas...giving them superior low-light vision. Cats see, hear and smell more than we do. For creatures with such big brains, our sensory apparatus is definitely subpar.

They can sense the presence of another living (or not) thing. Our dogs used to have a real problem with my uncle going up and down our stairs in the middle of the night. (He was found dead in his room 6 years ago in December.) But, once in a while the cats used to get edgey. They seem to only have problems with the not-so-nice spirits. And I may not believe in the psychis and mind-readers, but I believe in the spirit and souls lingering around. We've seen him before, too!

Maybe they do but my cats are very focused when they are listening for something. For example, My mom thought my cat Menace was sleeping in the chair. And while he was sleeping he fell out the chair but he really did this on purpose because there was a mouse and he was so focused on the mouses sounds that he grabbed it. Cats are amazing creatures.

I have heard that if a cat is fixed at the wrong time it does cause disorders like hallucinations. And than there are those who claim that animals can see ghosts.

my silly dog barks like mad at the flower pot before just because her neck string got tangled up with the plastic flower pot and then she went running all around and the flower pot seems to be like chasing her...
so being so silly, she thinks that the flower pot is alive..
ur cat might have the same experience =)

Yes. My cats stare at walls which leads me to believe that they see something that I don't.

Oh, yeah, totally! Animals have the sixth sense. Which is why people say that they are more in tuned with nature.
