Oh yes. Other people I know are weird - they eat the nicest stuff first. Never could understand that.

Last night I had toad in the hole, so I ate in the following order:

1) Vegetables (mange tout, asparagus, baby sweetcorn)
2) Mashed potatoes
3) the batter part (except one little bit)
4) the sausages, except one little bit (Waitrose pepper and chilli - VERY nice!)
5) final mouthful was a the last bit of batter and last bit of sausage.

I have simple tastes.

My real dilemma is when I have some buttered toast and a bottle of beer. The tastes just don't go together and I never know what I want to finish last. It ends up being a horrible melange of taste and spoils both.

In the olden days, when families were very big and usually very poor, family meals were often eaten in shifts....(1) the table wasn't very big and (2) some members of the family came home later than others because of working. The people eating earlier always left the best....usually meat.....till last in case there wasn't any left for the late-comers.
A lot of older people never got out of that habit and still do it now.

Oh always, although the other day I had a meal and had some garlic mushrooms, I had one, they were soooo nice, I decided to leave them until last, but by the time I got to eat them they were cold!

If I'm eating "proper" (combining the food that is on the plate for each mouthful), then funny how the best thing is left over for the last few bites.

no cause you are the least hungry at the last in fact you enjoy a meal when you are the most hungry i.e. at the beginning of any meal so you should start with the best to enjoy it the most

Yes! I eat all my veggies first, then leave the tastiest bit till last. Unless it's spag bol - then I just eat it all at once, generally pretty quickly :o)

I used to do that until I realized that sometimes I was overeating to get 'the best' that I had saved. Makes more sense to eat it early, then if you get full, you won't force yourself to eat more.
