There are lots of good suggestions here. People all have different learning styles, so try a range of activities and see which works best for you. Speaking with a native worked best for me!
Mix with native French speakers and avoid speaking English/Indonesian, or ask your bf to practise with you a little every day or two - prepare a scenario beforehand so you will have a specific topic to work on (like 'going to the shop' 'meeting new people' 'asking for directions' etc etc)
Find out if you have a local Alliance Francaise, the French cultural body (they are all over the world) which run great classes and cultural events. There is a list of their agencies in Indonesia at:

Take a group class
Find a tutor
Learn from tapes or a book
Good luck!

If you really pay attention to the CDs and such, they tend to work out. You can also teach yourself from a book....like, purchase a French book used in classrooms and try that. It takes people from knowing absolutely no French to being decent at speaking the language at least, so that's a start, and if you get that far, I'm sure he or his family could help you get better. Good Luck!
