i agree with the post above, islam tends to protect the male. another example is polygamy, where the husband is allowed to have up to 4 wives (correct me if i'm wrong) but nothing is stated for the woman.

I'm a singaporean from singapore and i have to say that islam here is not what it is in iran. for those who have been to singapore, you'll know that it's a rather cosmopoilitan state and infinitely liberal when compared to iran and other middle eastern muslim states. teenagers above the age of 16 are allowed to have sexual relations though sex with a minor is punishable by law as it is in many countries (probably some prison term, not hanging like in iran). the law here seems to protect the females mostly.

but most of the muslims here are still devout. they pratice the culture and religion with no problems. everyone gets along with everyone.

it really depends on how far one takes the religion and how man shapes religion to gain, what i believe is, power. so no we should not abolish islam at all. some people just need a good dose of globalisation.

Be careful how you use your terminology.

The world should do no such thing - it's up to the people in Iran to choose the kind of government they want. Teenage Muslims in Malaysia, Indonesia (both muslim countries) have sex all the time without encountering any problem at all; if they are caught redhanded, they undergo religious counselling, no other punishment.

All the Arab, Mid East Muslim countries snubbed Malaysia's concept of "Civilizational Islam" - they think theirs are more civilized - stoning for adultery; hanging/beheading for unmarried sex; killing for faith conversion etc have no place in civilised societies anywhere.

Well, the only way for Islam to make it's "mark" on mankind, is if it does something really extreme. I guess Islam is trying to win some sort of religion popularity contest or something. Jesus walked on water, healed the sick, restored sight to the blind. And all Muslims can come up with is to cut heads off of innocent civilians, make carbombs, and hang teenagers? I guess any notion of Islam being a "peaceful" religion just went out the window.
