Parents having a a child growing up with parents that have a horrible marriage is worse and more traumatic than a child growing up with divorced parents because if they are divorced than the child doesn't have to hear the screaming.

I'd have to say a bad marriage. The child would grow up confronted with the marital problems possibly every day, with no way of getting away from it. But, by the same token, it could be a bad divorce too. Basically, the parents need to be as mature as possible, and always think about the children. But I do think children are better off with happily divorced parents than unhappy married ones!

I would go for the latter, that is, having a horrible marriage is worse than a child growing up with divorced parents. With our society being more open to this set-up (divorce), children can adapt better if ever they came from divorced parents. However, having to go through agonizing marriage every single day may have devastating psychological and emotional effects that children can take to their adulthood.

Tramatic ??
Growing up with parents in a horrible marriage is trama by comission, while growing up without 1 parent is trama by omission.
So, - you'll get a lot more answers stating that the "horrible marriage" is worse. Plus, since women typically think that divorce / separation is an option, - just not the first and preferred one, -then I'm sure they'd advocate that kids are 'better off' with divorce rather than an un-happy marriage.
But really, ... aren't they doing it for themselves anyway??

A horrible marriage. The child normally becomes the one stuck in the middle of the two parents. They can also grow-up thinking that love doesn't exist.

i think a child growing up with a horrible marriage, since they take all the pain and anger out on you and you become a subject of their failures as parents

I guess the worse is when the parents pretend that they have a nice marriage just for the kid's sake
