IN KANSAS CITY
It really depends on the day and desire. For instance on a hot summer day you would want seafood or a good salad. It would be McCormick & Schmidts or the M&S Grill, if you are low browing then the salad at Sweet tomatoes is very nice at a low price. Jun's Sushi or Kona Grill Sushi on the Plaza for light uncooked seafood that is cool in the summer.
If you like Chinese there are a good number of places. PF Chang's, Princess gardens and Bolings are my favorite for Chinese.
BBQ is Kansas City's trademark food. Arthur Bryant's on a good hot summer day will make that ice cold beer go down fast. For lunch lighter fare in Rosedales fine sweet bbq sauce for a low cost. And of course, Gates fine BBQ.
Then if you want good Itailian food Jasper's has been around for 50 years. It has been run by the Mirable family and you are treated to casual upscale dining.
Capital grill if you want hi-end atmoshere. Great Steak's are located at the fine Ruth's Chris Steak house.
For good local cooks in a romatic setting JJ's and it's sister Frondizzie's deck.
The deli of KC is da Bronx which is wonderful for take out or a college type atmoshere.
There are a few French and Italian places such as Tatsu's (romantic, OPKS), Aixois (romantic Brookside) and el Centro (lite Northern Italian between Plaza & Brookside)that are very good that should also be considered.
There are lots of fine restaurants in KC. There is not a lot of Wonderul restaurants outside of hi-End chains, i.e. Capital. Ruth's, Morton's.
Most of the good local flavor can be found at JJ's, , American, 40 Sardine's, Lidia's , Le Fou Frog, Garozzos, Plaza III, Aixois, Tatsu's. This is the Basic list, Many more exist.
Let me know more about what and where your needs may be satisfied.

Denny's. Yes it's true. Cheap, they wait on you, the food is dependable, the service is friendly if you are, and you can find them everywhere in the US.
