No amnesty.
Their country needed them and they ran away. Why should that be rewarded?

a ticket south, back home to the USA, every damn senators son of them, they were usually not the poor or middle class ones who ended up going to fight in that dirty evil illegal criminal war that the states spent years denying was a war because it was so damn illegal. police action is what it was called then and when your veterans came back they were denied benefits for combat or veterans of a war because it was only a police action. It did not become a war until much much later when one of your cowboy movie hero presidents was trying to make brownie points with the press. And then he even talked about how the veterans should be honoured for their hard won victory in viet nam. what a joke. those little yellow pajama wearing rice farmers kicked your buts right out of there. I can remember watching the news as you scrambled to escape as the tanks were rolling into saigon, renamed immediately for their inspirational leader. you were supposed to be giving them a stable government, but they had to fight you to get rid of the death squads and the Korean mercenary murderers you brought in. enough, you should have given every man who had to serve there at least a million dollars, they should never have ended up in the desperate economics that they did, crippled, poisoned, and half or more mental from that evil illegal little police action, while all the senators kids... why say more you get my point I think

What they did is no worse than what the president did. He was AWOL in the guard and got away with it due to daddys and granddads connections... that was a long time ago and many people try to rewrite history to suit themselves.

Everyone did a lot of soul searching before they did what they did. I'm talking about all choices and all viewpoints. There is no simple answer to this as there are allot of other factors to consider.

they were cowards. the first generation to turn it's back on it's country and that's despicable. there were no protests during the spanish-american war, world war 1, world war 2 or korea. but for some reason, these socialist ingrates believe that you SHOULD "ask what your country can do for you" instead of the other way around.

if I had my own country and a man didn't want to be sent to fight for his countries ideals then I would let him have amnesty yes, people should be forced or drafted to fight in a war if they don't want to, considering I have epilepsy and my country just automatically says we don't want you to defend our nation you can just sit home and be a gimp I feel the same way in return to them, I wouldn't mind killing a few people that deserved it, there are some really evil people out there in the world, and I would love to work for my government but they don't want me so I guess I can just be unamerican and hate them and disagree with them

We damned near had a mutiny when they were allowed back.
They were processed on military bases and had HEAD OF THE LINE PRIVILEGES , DIDN"T HAVE TO CLEAN THEIR AREAS ,
OR FOLLOW ANY RULES .
My troops hated their guts !
Some of them wouldn't take showers and stank up the squad bay something fierce . My men had to clean up behind these cowards .
Worst of all, the cowards could and did shoot off their mouths, insult and demean you and you did not dare touch them, you'd be court martialed and sent to the brig ( jail ) .
We were happy to get rid of them.

If they did this because they knew in their heart the war was wrong I can understand that completely. Not everybody has a daddy who can get him a safe national guard or similar job.

Running away from the military for whatever reason, is unpardonable. They are liable to be punished.
