If serving on a jury would cause a financial hardship for you, go to the courthouse and ask for a waiver. In my area, one is allowed to waive jury duty if it will be a burden to serve. Just have your boss sign a letter, specifying the company does not reimburse for jury duty, and return it to the court house.
At the time I was called, I would have loved to have been able to serve, but like you, it would have been too much of a financial burden to do so.

Whoever said it would not be a jury of your peers is right. If you were on trial, would you want only the rich and welfare recipients on the jury? It would not be a good balance. I, like you, have always wanted to be on a jury but it would have hit me in the pocketbook too. To have to lose your regular pay- well, it's out of the question for some of us- some employers will cooperate, some won't or can't.

I think jury duty should be a thing of the past, and that court cases should be left to trained professionals, like in most other parts of the World.

I still think it's a good system. It's a civic responsibility and privilege for all registered voters..and besides that, in Texas, you get six bucks for participating!!

Still, if it's going to cause you a financial hardship, talk to the courthouse about it. It seems to me that you're not supposed to get docked any pay for serving jury duty..but I could be wrong about that.

We were reported as up in communities of 100 and fifty. This went on all day lengthy. each and every ability juror changed into given a questionnaire to fill out and convey decrease back to court docket. i changed into the 2d one reported as in what might want to be a three month homicide trial. It took over a week to pick a jury. Lunch time changed into a million a million/2 hours and the court docket changed into darkish on Friday. This meant shall we artwork on the fifth day. it type of feels that my employer paid all and sundry who had to serve or changed into even reported as up. So, someone might want to work out many fellow workers wandering the foyer at any given time. once the court docket gadget knows that a employer gained't deduct any wages, assume a being a attainable juror at any time. We were paid $6.00 in line with day plus shuttle cost. The lengthy wait downstairs is the worst. the 2d time, 2 years later, i changed into under no circumstances reported as up, yet nonetheless had to analyze in each day. carry a sturdy e book or a laptop or perchance start up writing your autobiography. sturdy success.

That would kind of make it hard to get a jury of your "peers".
