A very Viking-esque, Scandanavian sounding name! Strong yet gentle; unusual in the English speaking world and will definately set him apart from the crowd. Good choice; I like it!!

Oopps! Irish, eh? I still like it for all the same reasons!

Not too keen I'm afraid, that might be because in the other languages I speak, the meaning of Odhran is PLOUGHED, and SKINNED.

It may seem like a silly statement, but "a name is for life". Think of what your little boy will have to put up with when he is at school and when he is an adult he will be faced with everyone saying "Pardon? How do you spell that?".

I like it, its unusual, distinct, and strong. My daughters name is spelt Kaela, I have to spell that for everybody! it doesnt matter to me its the name I gave her, her full name is, Kaela Te Matariki, not only do I have to spell that, but I have to explain the meaning as well. Use it, a name is a gift for life, if its what you really special to u do it

It's not THAT common a name in Ireland.

I've never heard it, and I've been teaching 20 odd years, mainly boys.

What does it mean? I think that names without any meaning and that are chosen just for their sound are not very good. For example, I am called 'Suneel' because in Sanskrit that means 'very blue' - the colour of my eyes when I was born.

Where does that originate? Thats one of those names that I wouldn't know if the person was a boy / girl unless I had seen them.

If you pronounce it Oran... then why not spell it that way. I like it but spelled Oran. Why be difficult and let the kid go through life with everyone spelling his name wrong.
