Do what makes you feel comfortable. Try babysitting with an adult nearby (downstairs or in the other room). Ask that they do not interfer with you and the child at all. That way you can get the feel for it and learn to become more comfortable with it. Also, when you do take the big leap and do it alone, make sure the parents leave emergency numbers for you in case something happens, as well as a way to get in touch with them! Good luck! :)

You should try with a parent at home that way they can point out if you make any mistakes. You could also take a first aid class which would make you more confident because now you know what to do in case something happens.
Remember that no matter how careful you ever are accidents are going to happen sometimes, they're kids, it doesn't mean you did something wrong.

Were all afraid of doing something wrong, even a mother when she first has a child. Its new to everyone. If its what you want to do, you wont get over your fear till you do it. I think its a great idea to start out first with the parents around. Make sure when you do it alone you have all the phone numbers of the important people you need to contact in an emergency, thats all any of us can do. Takes experience, and we all have to get experience someplace... you go girl!

You are cautious, and you sound like a responsible young person...
If you enjoy children as much as you seem to, go ahead.
Remember for problems you can't solve yourself, help is only as far away as the phone.
P.S.
You could take a first aid course before starting to look after children, that should help you feel more self confident.
And read a few child care books for more info.

To be or not to be, is that the question??
Well, I would say if you are confident enough proceed, else gain confidence through expert advice like you could ask some other babysitters in your colony for some advice.

It is hardly difficult. Babysit at the childs place with the parents gone. Is this not what babysitting is?

I would suggest you discuss this with your parents and the child's parents. They will be able to give you good, straight answers.
Good luck.
