yes, effexor xr is suppossed to be taken with food and a liquid (preferably water and certainly not alcohol :-) do not chew or crush the capsule. if the capsule can not be swallowed whole, it can be carefully opened and the pellets placed in applesauce. this food/drug mixture should be eaten immediately without chewing the mixture and drink water after eating mixture.

You may also sprinkle on applesauce. But do not cut/crush/chew it.
