Actually I think talking on the phone without a head set can be more lazy then without. When I have a headset on I exercise, work around the house, drive a car, do paperwork. I tend to be more productive and active with a headset

Well, for me, I use it while my hands are busy - like, when I'm on the computer, or going through papers.
Also, sometimes I'll be in a place with poor reception - so put my phone in a spot that has decent reception, and can walk around and talk still.
There are many good reasons for the headset - sometimes, it's just necessary to have your hands free. It's also a lot more comfortable than holding a phone up to your ear for extended periods of time. And yes, there is laziness in that - but, hell, why not go all the way with it - why are people so lazy they don't just drive - nay, walk - over to the person they want to talk to?
All technology is there to make things easier - why is one thing due to laziness, and another simply accepted?

Some people just want to look important. World News had a report saying that 25% of people on cell phones don't have anyone on the other end. They want to look like they are talking to people.
As for your earpiece question, it's both laziness and the "cool factor." Hey everybody! Look at me! I've got an ear piece! I'm sooo important!
Yeah. Right.

If you sit on the sofa and talk on an ear piece you could be lazy. But at my work we type a lot, and it allows us to continue to do our job while taking a call. Or if you are busy like bringing in groceries or cleaning, or running errands it can come in handy with full arms. What if the person on the sofa just did a lot of things that tired them out? Is it lazy then?

Lazy or not, the earpiece keeps the phone away from your head. There is speculation that the radio waves close to the head can cause damage to the brain. I use an extra antenna which sends the waves out away from my head. When I am not near my antenna I use the earpiece and leave the phone sit on something away from my body.

I actually don't own an earpiece, but I think I should go buy one now, my phone gets really HOT after a few minutes of talking on it. Which is ok in the winter, but in the summer it makes me hardly ever use it. My boyfriend uses his ALL the time, it can be annoying because sometimes I think he is talking to me when really he is on the phone, but he cannot hear that well without the earpiece, so I can't really blame him for wanting to hear the other side of the conversation.

1. Using the earpiece allows you to use both hands for other activities.
2. Cell phones put out radiation, and many people are uncomfortable with having a source of radiation so close to their brain. Research experiments on rodents, for example, have demonstrated that exposure to this radiation can cause cancer. So using the earpiece keeps the source of radiation (the cell phone's antenna) further from the person's brain.
(Bluetooth, by the way, uses less radiation, so it's less dangerous.)

Cell phones are so small. After a while my arm and shoulder cramp up from prolonged holding of a cell phone in place. It is better for your back all around not to be so scrunched up. And absolutely yes, some people, while they are working, are better off having hands free.

I like to wear my earpiece if I'm going to be on the phone for awhile. My arm gets tired of holding the phone to my ear, my phone is too small to try and hold up with my shoulder. Also, if I know I'm going to be on hold, it allows me to file papers, load the dishwasher or do other tasks while I wait.

I use an earpiece because I have 2 little kids to look after, laundry to fold, meals to cook.. etc.. and I don't have a hand free to hold a phone.
