No high?
No lows?
Must be Bose.
I can't believe the people who sling uninformed advice around here. The Bose nameplate will impress your uninitiated friends, but if you want to impress them with great sound, any number of other manufacturers will do better. Bose' slogan should be "Better sales through marketing research" There's a reason why they don't publish their speakers specs and they don't like people to do side-by-side comparisons with other manufacturers. Do yourself a favor and listen to a lot of speakers and make an informed decision on your own.
No one manufacturer produces the best everything. For example, Onkyo makes great receivers but their speakers are questionable. JBL makes great speakers but their DVD players are questionable. What you really have to do is do a lot of reading and audition a lot of gear. You need to find out what you like, not what a bunch of "Yahoos" think. Music and sound enjoyment is a very personal thing; what may sound awesome to one person may be very distasteful to another.
Some names to look for:
Onkyo
JBL
Harmon Kardon
Cerwin Vega
Marantz
Pioneer
Polk Audio
Infinity
Denon
KHT
The list goes on...
One name that you will notice is missing from my list is Bose. You can do much better for much less but if you insist on checking them out anyways, beware! The salesperson will not give you the specs on their products. They also will make it very difficult to do a side-by-side comparison with other brands. They will insist that you listen to the Bose demonstration disc (which is designed to emphasis their strong points and hide their shortcomings).
When auditioning speakers, bring your own music. Do a side-by-side comparison using the same music source. Take your time. Don't be pressured

How much do you have to spend? What is your definition of "home cinema"? Are you talking about the audio or about the video? What size room is this going in? What are it's acoustal characteristics ("live" or "dead")? This question is like asking, "What's the best car brand?" Without knowing your driving habits, all the answers lack credibility. Consult an expert at a reputable audio/video house (not Best Buy/Circuit City but a local, established specialist). Even then, any store or specialist will try to steer you to the brands they carry. That's okay, though, because a good specialist usually has very good reasons for carrying the brands they do. However, to shoot from the hip and try to give you some well-respected brands (not Bose): Denon, Yamaha, Sony, Kef, Velodyne, Mirage, Mitsubishi, BG, B&W, Rotel, Adcom, Audio Control...um, this could go on awhile....
Good luck and enjoy your forthcoming system!

The best marketing (where you pay more for the name than anything else) is Bose - you'll definitely be paying 95 cents on each dollar towards marketing and the rest will be what you'll get in value of product.
If you want something that sounds good, then avoid kitschy little speakers - otherwise, you can get the Bose sound for a fraction of the cost by buying computer speakers (Logitech is good).
There is no "best brand" although there are many excellent brands in each segment of Home Theater products.
Personally, I would recommend "go educate yourself" as the best choice for you.

There is no best brand. When chosing a home cinema use your eyes & ears to buy. Whatever looks & sounds best to u is the best. The better question is which is the most expensive. Some people equate better with how much it cost.

i think it is BOSE system.
i tried this system and marketing for it in Jordan.
the idea is that you can find many choices depending on your requirements and it is for the whole area and it have a self calibration to give you the best audio signal in the whole area considering the speakers distribution and the subwoofer situation.
by the way the slogan for Bose is ( better sound through research )

Bose blows.
Build a system, get the best of each company.
Bose should say "Better sound through marketing"
People like Bose because they don't know any better, and they fall for the hype.

I tend to be a quality vs. value guy. If I was building a system for my house, considering I want something nice, but I don't have tons of money.
Pioneer plasma and receiver (Elite if I could afford it)
Polk Audio speakers
Velodyne Sub
I'm OK with Sony DVD.
My opinion, my eyes, my ears.

It really depends on what componet your connecting. For televisions, I am a huge fan of Sony. For receivers, Denon is a great brand. I would visit crestron.com. They provide insight into great brands for certain componets. I hope this helps. best of luck.
