Since when did loosing weight and being healthy involve joining a health club? I compare going to church as going to a gym.......you don't have to go to the gym to loose or maintain your weight as you could do that at home. Its allot easier to loose weight at the gym because you are in an environment where everyone else is working out trying to achieve the same goals. Not only do you learn a few new exercise moves and nutrition tips from these people but they also help motivate you to keep coming and work harder towards your goal. In essence this is what church is all about, you do not need church to worship God or have a good life, just like you do not need a health club membership to loose weight......

People generally like hanging out with other people. That's just the way we are built, hard-wired or whatever, So it only follows that when a person gets "religion" he or she will look for others of similar interests. But that's the same in any field of life, not just religion. The important thing that you allude to, though, is that a relationship with God should first of all be a personal thing, independant of the pressures to join any "club". Jesus said that you will seek and find, ask and it will be given unto you, knock and the door will be opened to you. One of the old Hebrew prophets (in the old testament) said that you will find God when you search for Him with all your heart. Many people have done that and they like to go to church because it's like a family gathering... the door is open! Come check out what the Lord is doing, you may be surprised, pleasantly, it's actually NOT causing a bunch of problems.

It's not organised religion that causes trouble, it's prejudice and hatred! Unfortunately, there is plenty of that in religious communities, and to their shame, clerical figures hardly ever do anything to stop it.
People feel the need for a ritual, something that brings them together and it's kinda nice to know that people who don't know you pray for you while they pray for their loved ones. It's an innate feeling to want to be a part of a community and religious services make you feel secure.
You know what the problem is? It all begins when people think they're better than other just because they belong to a different "club"!

lol.
If they didn't, there would be richer common folk, and some really poor, pissed off religious "leaders".
It is a multi-trillion dollar business after all!! That is some country club, and the members don't even get to hang out on yachts!
