An atheist is someone with an opinion about God. It's quite logical to talk about God. The information is very important to me because a lot of people in this world believe in God and I am very interested to know how people in this world think, and how they rationalise god-belief. Neither of the questions (or implications) in your last sentence are true for me.

Just like people of different religions try to win converts, atheists also try to convince people of just the opposite. No matter what it is they believe, its wrong. Atheists (like a lot of other people) think they are smarter and always right and that you should do what they do and think how they think.
Sorry I answered your question since I'm not an atheist.
Also, it drives me crazy how atheists treat atheism like a belief system.
Its the lack thereof!!

No such strategy required: I'm already convinced there's no god.
So I don't need to learn anything about god. On the other hand, there are plenty of believers and it's always wise to know your neighbors.

God dosen't believe in atheist, therefore I don't either. It is strange the a self proclaimed atheist spends so much time on the subject of God. I don't believe in mermaids, and, spend practically no time on the subject.

I don't constantly talk about god. The thought never occurred to me. I've got more important things to do.

I agree with Erik Lehnsherr. I think it's in my best interests to bring the weak minded over to the side of common sense. I feel bad for people who think there is a bearded white guy living in the clouds.
It reminds me of how cavemen used to think stars were food, and would try to grab and eat them.

We don't try to convinve ourselves. We KNOW he doesn't exist. About talking a lot - we do what other Christians are trying to do. Converting others by swaying their beliefs.

I'm an atheist because God told me to be.
And I'm not going to go against His wishes.
