MUSLIM simply means "one who submits to God".
In this context "god" is "allah" and the word means one who is a follower and adherant ofthe teachings of ISLAM.

Muslim is not a race. Muslim is a word that refers to people who believe in God under the religion of Islam. Islam is a religion that recognizes Christianity and Judiasm and stems from the same source. According to Islam, Christians, Jews and Muslims are all believers.

Muslim comes from submission. A Muslim is someone who has submitted his deeds to God. It is very common amongst muslims to say "I've submitted my deeds to Allah" which means that the person has done what they can, but they are relying on Allah to make it happen.

A race is a word that refers to people who are genetically similar. For example, the East-Asian people come from the same race. Caucasian is a race, but Islam is not a race. It's a religion. There are people from all races who believe in Islam.

Arab is also not a race, as Arabs now are a huge mixture of so many races that they hardly all look alike.

Criticizing Islam is not racism. You can criticize anything you want without being a racist. A good way of doing it, which is something I learned as a student in the United States, is that you can be PRO- some ideaology, like for example you can be PRO-Agnosticism, which is the belief that nothing is for sure, there is not a God for sure, there isn't a real religion for sure. Agnostics are explorers of theology but don't really believe in any religion just yet. So you can be PRO-Agnosticism without being Anti-Islamic. As long as you criticize the idea, not the person, you should be OK. Criticize and idea, back it up with evidence, or even opinion, but don't offend anyone.

For example, you can say that you do not believe in Islam because of A, B and C, and you won't be a racist or a bigot. You are entitled to freedom of speech and freedom of thought and freedom of religion. However, you can the step the boundaries and start criticizing people for who they are. You don't make choices for people. If someone wants to be a Muslim, you cannot deny him that right.
