This HIV/AIDS issue, are we really tackling it? Is it receiving the right attention?

So much resources and energy are being devoted to the scourge, yet reports indicate a worsening situation all around the world! Are the appoaches right?

yes definitely much has been talked about but as we humans have develop an habit of spending 90 % on show biz the real crucial need of an vaccine gets only 10 % of funding and research as big company's are working very hard in this Field what the thing is to be noted is that any research has to done in such an concealed manner that no hint should go to your competitor which can produce same drug. even scientist are paid handsomely in order not to switch to competitor. this i was mentioning eats 90 % of your cost of developing drugs.
take an example of Anti -retro viral drugs which are the only drugs available in today world to save people infected with HIV. even for such an important drug which can be mass produced and supplied by WHO it simply is not happening because company dose not like to sell for cheap nor he want others to copy recently Indian company copied and produced this cheap generic drug but eventually original company with the help of 100 of millions dollar won the case and stop the company producing the drug. see on one hand you have daily 5000 to 7000 people dyeing of AIDS on other hand you have company who can not see this and sees his profit only and also you have world body WHO which is nothing but a small puppy of west.

A lot is being done in research but it does take time to make discoveries and then a long time to produce a viable mass production method.

Drug companies have reduced the price they charge for the drugs to third world countries. The UN is calling for the companies to reduce the price still further. This could be counter productive in that the companies need the money coming in to pay for the research. Perhaps the UN should consider some aid money being used to subsidise the prices or fund the research.

The problem in Africa and similar areas can only get worse. Unprotected sex with several partners is rife. There is a myth going round that sex with a virgin cures aids and as a result the rape of children under 8 years old is rife! Therefore HIV is now very prevalent in the school population.

Capetown has a hospice for children born with aids.

The only viable way to achieve a big step at the present time is probably to promote the safe sex message and improve the supply of prophylactics.

NO & NO Im 39yrs old so i can remember the adverts that were shown on the T-V in the 80's early 90's that hit the Point Home with Hard hitting strait to the point Adds like A.I.D.S KILLS Which made a genaration take note and became safe from if you have sex put a Condom on and if you take drugs dont share needles, Now you dont see any adverts for it nor is there any media coverage as no one stepped into Lady Diana's shoe's after her sad death so it dosent even get spoke about now, Yet it's still a Killer and spread the same way's, with the age young people have sex now getting younger they should be Told about this Killer even if it has to be in School, But Goverments would rather stick there heads in the sand about it, A mean how many advert's would you get on telly for the price of a Lordship these day's Nudge,Nudge Wink Wink, Tony Blair

I think it will be helped when we get rid of premarital sex
and multiple sex partners. If people just remained celibate
until marriage the cases would go WAY down. Having
one sex partner really does have an advantage.

Alot of people do it to themselves ( not all) but most.
If they wouldnt F-everything in site maybe.

Is that realistic, no probably not, because people will
continue to be stupid, but should we invest in a cure
that people cause themselves? That could be for
the most part be preventable? I feel bad for the
horrible suffering of those who where raped
or who got it through transfusions. so maybe
we should invest in it. But how can i feel sorry
for those who knew about it and yet slept
around anyways?

This is a question that has many answers and view points. In my opinion though this epidemic is not receiving the attention it should.Programs that are supposed to educate us are highly underfunded and overwhelmed. As far as being able to track hiv/aids I think that is near impossible,there are thousands everyday diagnosed with this disease.Just imagine how many people out there that don't no they have it.Life is a gamble how much are you willing to risk?

No, we could be doing much more. Stupid President Bush and his abstinence only approach to stopping HIV, and not supporting safer sex programs is not helping the problem at all. AS LONG AS THERE ARE HUMAN BEINGS ON THIS PLANET THERE WILL BE PREMARITAL SEX. We need more funding for HIV prevention programs that promote condom use and needle exchange prgrams. I cannot wait until this idiot is out of office.

Well it varies from country to country doesn't it? In the UK and Europe , United States, Australia, Japan it is being dealt with as best we can, however obviously the African countries have a long way to go. Their governments are not doing enough to educate the people.
