Boy, have I been there! Your son is expression his individuality/freedom of choice. The ability to choose whether to give you a hug gives him a sense of power. We see it as something to be concerned with, but it isn't. He doesn't love you any less, he is just testing his new found autonomy. Five minutes later he will be sitting on your lap.

Sometimes kids will do this as a game. Try playing along and in a teasing voice say something like "Hey, silly, where's my hug?" Or there could just be a reason that he doesn't want to face you? How is your breath? Do you smoke or drink coffee or wear strong perfume. Kids don't like those smells any more that adults do. Also, sometimes we just don't know our own strength and what you might consider to be a nice hug might feel too firm or uncomfortable to him.

It gets a reaction out of you! That is why. When he does that, turn your back, and pout. The baby will then go to hug you. It really is a young game. It is just a young son, feeling out his boundries. Do not take it hard. Play with it.

My son used to do that. Just hug him like that. Thats how he thinks a hug is supposed to be. If it bothers you just tell him and show him to turn around. My son now gives normal hugs.

It's just a game they play...they like to mess with ya. My youngest (just turned two a few days ago), still likes to do that..but she'll switch between me and the hubby on different days...she go to me and not him and vice versa. Kinda funny if you ask me.

Don't be mad, but do you smoke tobacco? If so, your clothes will smell like an ashtray to a non-smoker.
