Kilroy was here is an American popular culture expression, often seen in graffiti. Its origins are indistinct, but recognition of it and the distinctive doodle of "Kilroy" peeking over a wall is almost ubiquitous among U.S. residents who lived during World War II.

Kilroy was here?
where? where? here? you mean here? but "was"? so he left? wish him luck! He's pretty old! over 60, I've been told! worked in a shipyard, when he was young! Of all inspectors he's the famous one! when his job was done, well off he went, To become a graffiti artist was his intent. And fame he earned, and well deserved. From his path he never swerved, but as time went on he got old and pale, from all that peeking over every rail. and in the world today, why, he is almost faded away.
