Is the security on the Amtrak train route between Seattle and Portland good enough for a grandmother and 2 young children to ride alone?

Yes! It is safe and beautiful, and rather comfortable, too.
There are some seats where you can all sit together facing each other ... request this at the seating kiosk where they assign seats.

ALso.... take the Amtrak Cascades .. NOT the Coast Starlight!!!

I take the train from Vancouver BC to Eugene OR every 8-10 weeks, and find it very nice. As in any place, you will want to accompany them to the restroom, but if you use the handicapped restroom near the Snack car, you can all go in together.

Enjoy!!

no extra or a lot less possibility-free than using a city bus or airplane. yet compared to some city buses, i have under no circumstances heard of a criminal offense on Amtrak. There are conductors, and also you may hang around contained in the café automobile if someone is making you experience uncomfortable.

Hey, you're in the US, the safest country in the world, right?

Yes, I've riden the train many times through there without any problems

It's still safer than travel on the roads.

sure if they don't crash into something
and/or if they don't derail, they are

but as far as riding no one should mess with them on the train
