There can be several reasons for a dog to have an odor like the one you describe.

Your dog could have a skin infection, or he could have food allergies.

Clearly, the treatment you have been doing is not working. Talk to your vet.

you will dry out his skin if you continue bathing either of your dogs that often! A dog should only be bathed once a month or when they smell really bad and are really dirty. Watch your dobe to see if maybe he is rolling in something that makes him smell. You can also buy some dog perfume from Target or Petsmart to spray on him in between baths.

You might want to take him to the vet to make sure he is heatly sometime the smell can be an infection. Depends ont he shampoo you use on the dog also. But I would think the best bet is to talk to your vet they can tell you exactly what is up witht he smell. Good Luck.

Sounds like he likes to roll in stuff. My sister had that same problem with her dog, a lab/border collie mix, sister to my dog. Mine doesn't do that but hers did it all the time.(she died several months ago)

My sister could not get her to stop doing it so she had to sleep outside..

And no it is not good to bathe them that much. You can get some disposable clothes at petsmart and wipe her/him down in between baths.

the odor is coming from excess sebum, (skin oils) When it gets really bad, bacteria is growing in the oils..Try a bath in anti-bacterial dish soap with the juice of a lemon in 1 gallon of final rinse water ..

You can safely give a dry bath by using Colgate Men's shaving foam...Just put it on a rag and rub it in, and wipe it dry with another rag or towel...this is good for his skin and will keep him fresh smelling...you can use it as needed..

Many dogs are sensitive to corn in their food. Try him on a food without corn, that often reduces body odor.

if it turns out that he is rolling in poo. he is showing his dominance. putting his scent over that of another..is there other animals around? i had a foster who kept doing that...after dominance was determined, it stopped. good luck. i would see a vet if you arent sure where the sent is coming from. mange can cause a bad odor also.

You need to find out what he is getting into that makes him stink. And discipline him. I don't see how it could hurt him for baths that often during the summer.
