Oh, scorn. Scorn! God, give me good, old-fashioned stone-throwing over pity any day.

Honestly? I'll take pity. This is based on a former sister-in-law who was a Southern Baptist (she was the only one I've ever met personally who didn't infuse their pity with a good dash of scorn; though the ones that scorn just do so for the fun of it, I think). She tried to convert me many times, but it came from a good place; she really thought she was helping me. And she was a good person, difference in beliefs aside.

Personally I do care if they do either. I am secure enough to not let either pity or scorn bother me. If pitying my beliefs or belng scornful to them is the only way they can feel good about themselves then I take comfort in knowing on the overall I'm a much happier person than they are.

I'll take pity because the scorn pisses me off... no reasonable reason why, but it just does. Pity I can shrug off as they are idiots to pity me when I'm quite happy with my life. Scorn is a negative waste of time.
