if ur not in a rush to get an apt then he should pay off his debt 1st.. Landlords look @ the credit history of the person that will be head of household.. If that will be u then u should be straight.. But they also verify employment history as well and criminal background checks..

i would be very wary of sharing an apt w/ur boyfriend.. if he's not paying off the debt that he already has what makes u think he'll put in his 50/50 when it comes to the debt that u and him will accumulate together..

plus how is he gonna get his debt right if he's making new debt..

i say u should fall back a lil until he pays @ least majority of his debt or u get the apt on ur own.. Be smart, make sure u can afford everything w/out having to depend on him if he starts claiming he doesn't have it or starts claiming that he has to pay his bills 1st before he helps u w/urs because remember this will all be in your NAME!!!!

Good luck!!

DON'T make the mistake of ever letting him use your good name on anything. If you get an apt, do it in your name alone and let him live there. Because rememeber.....People with bad credit, have it for a reason. They are usually irresponsible with money. Yes there are exceptions to that rule, sometimes its bad luck, or a layoff, medical problems, but mostly, it's because they haven't yet learned how to manage money and their lives. So be careful and take it as a sign of his life management skills too. Don't co sign anything for him, no matter how much he begs. Just say no. You will live to regret it if you do.

To rent an apartment you need to have rental history. Good credit alone won't do. If you proof of income and good credit it might help if the manager isn't an *** as some are.

Yes, but don't depend on him to share the rent. If his credit score really is bad, then you are putting YOUR credit at risk, unless you can cover the rent by yourself.

And don't get married until he's clean for a couple of years, as that will definitely put your credit at risk.

Some apartments only do a credit check on the lease holder. others do them on both people which they would both be the lease holder.

It might work if you are the main signer and he is the cosigner, you would have to talk to your agent about that.
