I read several Chinese biographies/accounts of the Cultural Revolution such as Life and Death in Shanghai. Also read a little bit of modern Chinese literature- all by Wang An-Yi. And some novels by Pearl S. Buck. Not much to choose from. I think most of the Chinese literature in the West is about the Cultural Revolution and books that Pearl S. Buck wrote.

I've never even heard of those people you mentioned... there's just not much in the Western market for Chinese authors, I guess.

Oh, this is embarrassing. I remember the story title but not the author. It was "Ground Covered In Chicken Feathers" or (Yi Di Ji Mao). It was well written and an interesting look into Chinese culture.

Favorite movie: The Story of Qiu Ju/ Eat Drink Man/Woman

Please write me and recommend a title or two.

I've just finished reading the unabriged version of Xi-you-Ji (The Journey West) - it was the English version - (I cant read the full Chinese version 'yet') and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I will continue to study Mandarin so I can read it properly.

I also want to read - Romance of the three Kingdoms - san-guo-yen-yi and - The Water Margin - shui-hu-zhuang.

I tried to read Gao Xingjian's "Soul Mountain", and got sick of it. My favorite stuff is from the revolutionary period; such as 家,and 骡驼祥子。I've also read 金瓶梅! Hee hee!
