You may be able to restore your system back to a previous save point, prior to the deletion of Word. I think it's under start/programs/accessories/system tools/system restore.
It should give you a calendar with the available restore points - it's supposed to make one automatically prior to changes being made to the system. If you're lucky, it might actually work.
Good Luck!
Cheers~

Use system restore in system tools, and restore your computer to an earlier time. The easiest way is do a search for tools or restore, and you will find the link for sysrestore. Go back to a time before it was deleted, and your entire system will restore to the previous settings including the programs that were there.

Has it been uninstalled or has the shortcut just been deleted. If it is still in Programs you can just right click on the exe and make a new shortcut on the desktop. If not you have to have a disk and reinstall or System Restore. I see copies at goodwill, Salvation army all the time. Good Luck!

Did you create a Restore Point before this happened? If so, go to that and you should have MS Word back. If not, then either find it on your WinXP CD or visit microsoft.com and search for a free download for the program.
