Yes, it is lawful to be detained. Police can hold you for 72 hours w/o charging you, not just 24, or 48. They have to be able to keep you around over the weekend if nobody is at the State's Attorney's office to authorize the charges, or if there is no bond court on the weekend.

we are talking about the police here don't you know they do what they want regardless of our rights.. although it is legal to detain you especially if your a suspect but they can only legally hold you x amount of hours depending on state without a charge.

Under "Criminal Procedure Code" of Singapore, Police can detain someone if they suspect a crime is committed.

In most jurisdictions they can hold you for 24 hours WITHOUT officially charging you with a crime. You do NOT have to speak to them. You do NOT have to do ANYTHING (including stand in a line-up, take a polygraph, etc.) if you do not have a lawyer. Even then, you still have choices. ALWAYS ask for an Attorney and NEVER say anything else, not a single word. Don't even acknowledge that you understand why you are there.
