As a painting it really needs work. He does have real talent and a good imagination but it looks more like a cartoon than a painting.

Which isn't really being negative. Animation in itself is a great art form. I'm a painter but I can't do the animation style of art very well.

As an artist he needs to decide which direction to take his talent. He could learn more of the basics to painting or head into animation. It's hard to straddle the line between both.

Great potential!!! a classic example of the power of the "single image" !! Are you sure it was done by your son? I have a feeling its actually your work and was just trying to get some feedback while using your son as some cover up. Its very much an 'adult or grown up ' idea. anyway if its really your son's work, then why are you acting like a stage mother doing things for your son? Leave your son's works alone, he'll be fine !!

As far as skill, I think it's definately there.

Now if we're talking about inspiration...nah, not so much. It's a little too predictable and the text detracts from any meaning the viewer may want to make for himself, ya know? I like paintings that inspire more "hmmmmm...." time.

But...like I said - he has great potential in the skill department - just needs some inspiration.

Your son has potential. Hands are one of the main things starting artists have the most trouble with. I'm looking forward to see his stuff in a few years!

As a fellow artist, I believe he should work on his shading and realism skills. I'm not using any negativity here, it's advice... it takes years to practice and achieve a certain level of skill. I believe that he's doing well so far and if he has his heart set on art, he should practice.

Wow - your son is really talented! I hope he is as nice as his paintings. It doesn't matter how talented you are, but how nice you are - in the end. But I showed my friend the painting and she gasped. Thinking she was exclaiming at how good it was i said " It is an amazing painting". But she shook her head in disbeleif and said "Oh my gosh - I don't think God would squish someone".
