Well, I am neither a smoker or a parent but I do know this:
As you have said, second hand smoke is bad for your kids. You wouldn't make your kids eat embalming fluid(Formaldahyde is in cigarettes) would you? But everytime you light up around your kids that is what you are doing. This might even cause them problems like asthma or deepened voice(extreme cases).
But, this habit can also be passed along to your kids. Your children look to you to show them what actions human beings perform. Your kids see you smoking and they think that this is a normal thing. Now, you may not have a problem with smoking or what it does to your body, but usually everyone has a problem with THEIR kid doing it.
This can also affect your child adversely when they hit their teenage years. The crowd of kids that smoke in high school are GENERALLY not the type of kids you want your child hanging out with. This is not ALWAYS the case, but as I say it is the normal scenario.
So, I beg you: Please stop smoking around your children.

Yes I do and I tell them that if they don't like it then they can leave the room. I, too, am so sick of people complaining about smokers. I have no problem with designated smoking areas. I have no problem with having to smoke outside. But when I'm in my own home and in my car then BACK OFF!!!! No one in my family has died from smoking. For those that complain that smoking affects air quality and the ozone, what about your gas guzzling SUV's? What about factories that spew chemicals into the air and water? Go to any major city and look at the layer of smog that covers the city. That wasn't created by cigarette smoke. For those that complain that smoking is bad for your health, stay away from the smoking areas. If a smoker has been thoughtful enough to step away from the crowd while outside to have a cigarette, stay away. If nonsmoker are going to attack smokers because of the health issue then you better go after drinkers too. Drinking is just as bad for the health as smoking is. Ever heard of cirrhosis? What about drunk driving?

It seems awfully strange to me that no one in my family has ever died from smoking, but yet people like you seem to always believe things that have never been completely proven as to wether smoking is bad for your health or not, especially second hand smoke. I am getting sick and tired of hearing this and wonder why you aren't trying to do something about the people who drink and drive where it's a proven factor that they kill more people driving then smokers under the gun have been for the last couple of decades. Get off our backs and start complaining about smokers and turn on to something more realistic.
Oh and by the way, I do smoke around my kids and like me, they have the freedom to leave if they don't like it.

I am a smoker and I don't smoke around anybody's kids. I am really cautious of where I smoke because I know that second hand smoke is just as harmful as smoking. Out of respect for others I think that other smokers should also be aware of their surroundings before lighting up.

my father always smoked around us - me and my brother.
even since we were babies. my brother now smokes too.
when I tried for the first time, I felt it was so natural, as if I was a habitual smoker. I got addicted immediately (definitely thank to my father's habit). I was trying to give up, at least did some long breaks.
Now I'm pregnant and don't smoke at all. Hope, I got rid of this habit forever. I don't want my son to be affected.

you gained't die quickly. easily that is a drag to die from smoking cigarrettes, because you slowly choke from Emphesima. it is not any longer an extremely romantic thanks to pass. and obviously you should get lung maximum cancers truly any time, yet in case you do get maximum cancers, it is going to probable take position after many years. Smoking at 13 though will kill you, because you receives hooked, and under no circumstances be able to stop till it is too late. Smoking somewhat isn't solid for you, I propose even air pollution is undesirable for you, so a lot extra is smoking and 2d hand smoke.
