Ha, I never tan and I have been to the doctor. I have a hematologist and have recieved iron transfusions via IV, taken supplements, eaten better. The iron never seems to stay at a stable level. Guess I should ask my doc more questions next time.

It can impair some of the macroimmune responses, such as swelling or fever, but has little effect on the little things like leukocytes and platelets. The iron deficiency mainly affects your ability to produce erythrocytes (red blood cells) and hemoglobin.

Iron deficiency anemia and a low immune function are not necessarily related except that whatever caused the iron deficiency anemia may also cause a weakened immune system. Meaning that if you are not eating a healthy diet then you are not getting the iron you need and probably not the other vitamins and minerals that you need for a healthy immune system either.

Iron deficiency anemia causes low immune system. You better ask your doctor for iron supplements. Eat iron rich foods like whole grains such as barley and oats; beans and peas; seeds and and nuts, especially sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, pecans, and almonds; vegetables such as Swiss chard and kale. Take 1,000 to 2,000 mg. Vitamin C supplements with each meal; calcium rich foods like soybeans, sesame seeds, soup stocks made with chicken or fish bones, and leafy green vegetables. Go easy on coffee, black tea, soda, chocolate, and other caffeine-containing foods because it inhibits iron absorption.

They all make you tired. You are thinking of a low white blood cell count. That lowers your immunity.
