It is better to have a balanced approach to sermons. Ideally, the sermon should be given in an expository manner. Preaching the message from the text. Not trying to be nice and fluffy.
A Pastor should follow Paul's example, as he spoke to the Ephesians, "for I never shrank from telling you the whole counsel of God." (Acts 20:27) The pastor should preach the Bible line upon line, pretext upon pretext, so that his congregation gets the whole counsel of God. Anything less, and he's shortchanging his flock, and not fulfilling his calling by God.

Psalm 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
Most pastors dont preach anything that is unpopular or will scare away members. I would ask my pastor about his messages and see if there are other scriptures he wouldnt mind teaching on. Since your walk with God is personal let Him direct your outlook. He will encourage you in your faith, and convict you in life. I've often found myself wondering when the teaching will go deeper. I've been a christian for twenty six years and well i get most of the deeper things from the Holy spirit. Just continue to seek wisdom, ask to be taught of the Lord. You never know if He's trying to impress something on you with all these positive messages. Ask Him to give you an open heart to recieve His truth.

Yeah, listen to my Pastor on line @ http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/enduring_truth
He doesn't preach "gospel lite" where he ignores the need to be free from living in sin. But he always leaves the congregation encouraged and positive about the power of God working in their lives so that they can live according to His will. Plus he has a down to earth style and a great sense of humor. He gives practical guidelines for applying God's word to your every day life.
Enduring Truth is the fastest growing small radio ministry in this country and last year Pastor Paul was chosen as the keynote speaker for the Sunday sermon at the National Religious Broadcasters convention. I work for the ministry and every day I here from listeners who say that God is working in their lives through the radio broadcasts.

Yes, there is something wrong with always positive. The Bible is not all positive. You can't teach heaven without teaching a hell.
Fear is the beginning..
Psa 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom
After wisdom is gained, true love comes in which serving God is not fear-based.
1Jo 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1Jo 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Absolutely! Read and study His Word. There is no better way. He speaks through scripture. I tell you, however, that it isn't always rosy, considering God judges, hates sin, and is wrathful against it. The best part is that He hates the sin, not the sinner. True repentance is how you get close to God. He says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock..." Answer Him by genuinly asking for Him to draw you near.

There's nothing wrong at all with a positive sermon. In fact most of us prefer them. Try another church. Just because you were brought up one faith doesn't mean you can't see if others are a better 'fit' for you personally.
