love it. got the big 5.7. fuel economy is ah, well, not particularly awesome, but incredible drive, sound system, and amenities make up for everything. owners/testers of it & it's competitor, the h3, always pick the jeep. & BIGGEST plus: not too many people r buying big suvs these days so def. easy to bargain down so money saved in that pays for gas for years.

I would say NO! As soon as the teen leaves the house the first place he is going to try and find is a place to thrash it off-road, since its a Jeep. And the commander isn't really built for that, though Jeep says it is, ha ha. If you really want to get the a Jeep get a Wrangler or a Cherokee. They are easy to maintain, and this will allow the teen to learn some responsiblity. Will they still take it off-road, sure they will, their kids. But if they break then they will have to fix it, or find some way to get it unstuck, I learned the hard way. Or better yet go with the VW like the other suggested. VW's are always cool little cars, pretty safe, cheap, and they can do the tuner thing to most of them, but they still won't go that fast, unless you get the VR6.

The new Commander is great. Classic styling, nice power, plenty of drivetrain options, and a relatively simple suspension, so customizing and taking it offroad should be pretty easy. Plus, it does look like my XJ, which is a very, very good thing. I'm still kinda mad at Jeep for not making them anymore. Best part about the Commander: it has all the features of those other "SUVs" (TOYota, Ford, GM, Nissan, Honda, etc.) and it's STILL trail-rated, from the factory.

If it can't get dirty, it isn't an SUV.

And DTB, you're a loser.

Piece of s#$@. Any 4x4 with a uni-body construction is not worth the money. Full frame 4x4's are far stronger and less prone to unrepairable body-twist. If you are into real 4wheeling then you need to think about this, if you just want a vehicle to drive around on the streets then go ahead and get one.

I love it! It has a classic (but updated) look of the old Wagoneers. Seats a whole family, it has a HEMI, and it's Jeep Trail Rated. They do sit a little low to the ground, but to me, everything does.

Too big, and too expensive.

I think they're for people with small schlongs.
