This land IS '"our" land, right along with every other LEGAL American citizen, whether they are NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN, BLACK, WHITE, BROWN, ASIAN, doesn't matter. History is H I S T O R Y. We don't dwell in the past, we have moved on. We don't have any need to be 'revered'. We are proud of our culture as most people should be about theirs. We have our ceremonies and traditions and we enjoy them. Others don't have to. Are YOU so sure WE (the Native Americans) 'lost'. We didn't have to run to another country, we have a better life than the illegal immigrants do, who freeload off our taxes. We are not illegal people. You continue to spew your jealousy of the American people and now you vomit your poison in the direction of my people. You have no idea just HOW MANY people in the USA are of Native American blood. You may be starting something you'll wish you'd never started. Native Americans are seen in all colors. Our Lumbee Indians are of African ancestry. Many people who 'look' white have more Native American blood than white. Be careful, when you strike that match it might blow up in your ugly face.
I AM Tsalagi and D@MN "PROUD" OF IT!!

The USA government made legal, binding contracts with the Native peoples regarding land and financial support. I doubt they would be hunting buffalo, but I highly doubt they would be living on reservations in poverty operating casinos either. They would be the leaders of the country and based on their culture would have probably developed a much different government. Also, I can't think of an instance when Native Americans as a people have been revered!

A lot of times I bring up the injustice that Native American have been put through. Not because of what happened 100 or more year ago. But because
we are still being unjust to people all the time and we should have learned something from our mistakes. In a country that believes in personal rights and freedom. No one should be imprisoned without do-process and with war criminals we should follow the Geneva Convention. If we a truly a great nation and I believe we are. Shouldn't we act like one?

pancha,
i have taken a look at some of the questions you’ve posted and i'm really shocked at the level of ignorance and racism you’ve displayed... i know it may not be your fault if you couldn't go to school and study this stuff, but still, one can learn by observing others, and the library is free to use and there are many educational books out there...
some good reading for you might be “watch for me on the mountain” by forrest carter – this details some of the horror faced by geronimo and his family when his baby was thrown back and forth through the air on the bayonets of solders and his wife had female body parts cut off which she was then gagged to death with… this is only one case that has been documented – there were countless others. the Indians have suffered far more atrocities on american soil then any other race in history.
just to help you get started in your education I’ve included more info and links below about some of the abuse of indians and if you look into this you will find that while we are no longer killing the indian children for sport, we are still robbing the food from their mouths by cheating and stealing their rights from them… these people have never been offered an equal chance in the past and now they wouldn’t know what to do with it if they were. it is not the steeling of the land that I am primarily concerned with but the destruction of the culture, abuse, killings, slavery… etc…
this is an article on wounded knee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Knee_Massacre) – though this is well known because it was the last major massacre, this type of thing was commonplace earlier in the century – to name a couple more well known situations the buffalo eradication, and trail of tears (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trail_of_tears) – which my relatives were on and watched their friends and families dropping dead before their eyes.
I also recommend watching “thunderheart” it is a movie based on the true story about the "incident at wounded" knee in the 1970’s which will help you to get a better idea of some of the very recent situations.
to answer another of your questions about why so many people claim to be Indian, it is because we are. rape of Indian women was very common, so between that and forced assimilation, the Indian gene has reached many, many people. also, most people can prove that they are part indian, because of the daws act of 1893 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawes_Rolls) which accounted for indians and forced them onto the roll… it also required that anyone with more then 3/4 indian blood (http://www.weyanoke.org/jdf-BloodQuantum.html) be assigned a white “guardian” which commonly led to abusive slavery – as in the case of my great grandmother.
I think it’s also important to recognize that while you stated that the crimes against the Indians were 200 years ago, some of the most horrific were actually late 1800’s through mid 1900’s.
Here are some articles to help you understand how the Indians were continually pushed farther and farther west after we “promised” them land then continued to take it away:
http://academic.udayton.edu/race/02rights/native14.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Territory
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Removal_Act
oh, and let’s not forget the intercourse act:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Intercourse_Act
I hope this information help to get you started on your self education :) if you still have confusion about whether we should work to try to make good on some of our promises to the indians please feel free to send me a mssg.

What is with you and the Indian questions?? Dang!! You need to for real quit HATING on the Indians, cause honey it's NOT cool.
And to answer your question, the Indians are revered because of what they had to go thru, the many cycles of change, and YET they are still able to keep their languages and many customs, and crafts alive. They have adapted to the "white" mans world, but still have their ways alive. This is something to be respected, and revered. Have you ever been to a Pow Wow Pancha?? If not I suggest you go one time, it can be quite awe inspiring!!! You will learn why the Indians are revered. (maybe then you will quit with your questions)
When Spain came and conquered Mexico and central America they pretty much wiped out the people and the cultures and the languages.....BUT the American Indians persevered, they fought to keep their ways alive and might I add they PREVAILED.

You're a good little rascist, aren't you? You're failing to take into account the way Natives were lied to, given supplies loaded with smallpox, and torn from their families, and way of life. The tribes are still being lied to by the gov't to this day, and are subject to having the ghettoes, I mean reservations blockaded by the gov't for not charging sales tax to non tribesmen. We're the only race in the U.S. that needs to register with the gov't just to legally state that they're Native American.
And for the record, we don't want to be reverred...that means worshipped. We want to be respected.

Why do you constantly ask these questions when you really don't care to learn anything about the most oppressed people who ever lived in this country? This land is theirs. You are just taking this thing with Renegade way too personally and you have way too much time on your hands. You are obsessed with this forum. When do you ever sleep?

I'm Tsalagi. If you had a diamond ring that someone stole from you, and 200 years later your ancestor found the people who it had been passed down to, would it not still be your family's property? Duh? That's why we want our land back. Just because years go by, doesn't change the fact that the Europeans raped, stole, and pillaged our land. As far as the buffalo comment goes, you're just really sad...

i don 't believe that all native Americans want to be revered..... and they insist that this land is theirs because it is....... it is all of ours..... i don't believe that we should be offended because they see themselves as the original peoples of the Americas..... i think it's great..... and no of course they wouldn't hunt buffalo and lives in tee pees today.... but they would respect our land and our animals a lot more than the white man does!!!!!
Pancha your history defines who you are as a person...... people with no history have no connection to the blood of their ancestors...... we need to embrace who we are and where we came from!!!!!!!

Native Americans ask no more than other Americans. We want the trespassers to leave. If you really want to know how we feel maybe you should try asking instead of putting your lies in our mouths.
