While I do respect the Corp as the only other serious warfighters in America's arsenal, they are not trained to be independent thinkers or actors, that is more in line with robots, despite all of the hoopla Marines can seize territory but they do not have the ability to hold it.

The US Army on the other hand wants thinking soldiers who have the ability to take initiative, they do not want soldiers who will charge a tank holding a .45, while this may look cool in the movies it's just not a sane thing to do.
While type "A" personalities ( aggressive, leap before you look balls to the wall ego) may sound like good qualities for a warrior note that they are never accepted in Special Forces Units, what does that tell you?
Marines are indoctrinated, Soldiers are trained.
Soldiers are trained to lead, Marines are indoctrinated to follow.

What are you, A follower or a leader?
As for those Navy and Air Force answers
The Department of the Navy has a separate branch for real men, It is called The Marine Corp! nuff said. (as for the so called seals any Marine Troop is tougher than a seal any day, place or time if you want Special Forces find out about America's Original Special Forces....(drumroll) The US Army Green Beret.

While seals make movies the Green Beret makes War.

The Air Force to it's credit does provide support for real WarFighters like Soldiers and Marines, but flying high and out of sight of the enemy does not a WarFighter make, with one exception.

The A-10 Warthog Pilot, Several years ago the Air Force in it's infinite wisdom wanted to retire the venerable Warthog (spoken with hushed reverance and awe) because it was not fast and pretty enough. Two things happened most unknown is that the US Army in it's wisdom asked the DoD for the A-10's then the first Gulf War broke out and these pilots and aircraft "Kicked Assets", Well the Air Force did not want the Army in the fixed wing aircraft business, (hey you guys can still drop supplies and provde C-130's and AC-130's for our Airborne units). So they reevaluted and updated the Airframe.

If the US Army could add the A-10 and C-130 in all of it's configurations to it's fleet the zoomies would be obsolete cargo carrying whining techno weenies, Wait they already are.

God Bless Soldiers, Marines and A-10 pilots because they are the best!

Better in what way? Each service has strengths and weaknesses in comparison to the others.

The Army usually has better equipment than the Marines.
Marines are usually much closer together as a unit.
The Army usually lives better while deployed.
Marines usually get to use Navy facilities which are nicer than the Armys'.
The Army is usually deployed longer.
Marines are usually put in harms way more often, but have shorter tours.

It depends on whats good for you.

I wont say what was best for me because that's just for me, but if you are planning to join either just make sure you give 100% and be the best marine or soldier you can be. If you do, guaranteed you wont regret your choice.

Josef S always nice to see those with no military experience answering military questions based on "what they've heard". I hope you don't get any stock advice from whoever told you that humvee story.

Okay, being as I'm Navy (and nuetral) I have to say the Marines. You just gotta love their do or die mentality. And for all you people who said Air Force....who are you trying to kid. From a technical point, you're light years behind the Navy and our job training for our enlisted give them a better chance and education for employment once they end their service. My dad did 32 years AF and still complains about how it's been run into the ground over the years. Not to mention AF pilots are just that...pilots. It takes a Navy man to be a true aviator. Okay, that's my shameless plug for Navy aviation. Love, peace and chicken grease everybody :)

This question has benn run into the ground, it all depends on what you want to do and where you want your career to go. As a Marine, I am a little biased on the "best" thing, but I respect all branches of the service.

depends on which country your taiking about,if your taiking about britain, the royle marines are some of the best marines in the world,as with the british army compared to the u.s army, the u.s as a bigger force as where the british rmy are skilled, there training is just very rough indeed.

Air force. I'll tell you why. There are more jobs in the Air Force that easily convert to civilian occupations. That is very important and should be on the mind of anyone who is thinking about joining the military. How convertible will your military job be to civilian life, if you decide to stay in the military only a short time?

It depends on what your looking for. Me personally the AF is making to many cuts and its hard to find a good job. I think the Marines train there people better but any branch is a great lifestyle.
