It's not uncommon among serial killers and other career criminals to find that most of them wanted to be police officers but did not clear the screening process. Ed Kemper is a great case study on that subject. Makes for...interesting reading, to say the least.

I would not, however, call it disproportionate. All types of people in society are drawn to various careers for the sense of power and control certain jobs offer. Politics, medicine, law enforcement...list goes on and on. While these people may enjoy the sense of power they feel, most are not violent.

Yes. When the "violent-natured" (what a sh*tty PC term) are attracted by law enforcement, those in law enforcement arrest them.

It is my experience over 20 years that there is an attraction of these type personalities, but they either get screened out because of their history during the background check, or in the psych eval. The ones that do make it through don't last long, they wind up with too many civilian complaints and get canned.

There could be a tendency...

One would hope that law enforcement agencies generally have psychological barriers for such people - that is those who intend to abuse their authority...either by violence or fraud...

I don't know about disproportionately - but I don't have access to statistics either...but I believe there'd be a tendency.
