how can i find out if i qualify for HEAP?

I live in Ohio and am a single mother with low income. My electric bill was INSANE last month and I can't afford to pay it. Cinergy just turned into Duke Energy and I heard they hand out disconnection notices like candy. If you don't know what HEAP is, it's a program that gives a voucher to mail to the electric company to help pay the bill once a year. I have 2 kids (one 10 week old) and need to keep them out of the 90 something degree heat as long as I can. The central air was fighting with the furnace so it was constantly running all month until the complex had someone come out to fix it. I'm sure my next bill will come with a disconnection notice, I am hoping the month's electric will be less since the AC is fixed.

go or call your nearest foodstamp office or social services agency. i live nyc and in the FS office near me, they have an advertisement for HEAP. good luck, hun.
