I feel that is appropriate.
I've been to too many funerals.
I have seen something like this done before.
Peace

I think your gesture is perfect. I am sorry for your loss.
Just a little bit of information on "appropriate" behavior: I too lost a friend Friday night to a massive heartattack. Today at the burial his wife and kids put a Diet Coke, Hershey bar and Twinkies in his grave. Those were the things HE loved and we all knew him by.
Celebrate your friend and place the rose on their casket in celebration of their life and your friendship.

Yes that would be very appropriate, and respectful as well. We had a girl in our town killed in a car accident, and everyone brought monkeys and pink things to her memorial because those were her favorite. Also one time we planted a tree and sprinkled a friend of ours' ashes into the dirt around it, and some people poured mountain dew in there too because it was his favorite, and one kid threw in a $20 bill because he had owed him money. It makes it very sentimental and is a great way to honor those who have passed. Sorry for your loss,

Yes It would be appropriate. When one of my friends died we ( our group of friends and his family) put all sorts of things in his casket with him. At the job we worked at there was a key that literally opened every lock in the place. Every one had copys of the key. I put my key in with him. We joked that it might be the only way he could get into heaven.
It kind of depends on the family and how well they know you. A rose should be appropriate no matter what though.
Sorry for your loss.

My heart felt sympathies for your loss.
Bring your rose, but follow the lead of the family. Their feelings should be regarded as the most important. If no one else lays a rose on the casket, ask the family's permission.
Peace be with you...

I would take the rose with me and politely ask the family's permission to do so. I think it is a lovely gesture. I am sorry for the loss of your friend.

Don't worry about what other people do. If you think a single red rose would be an appropriate tribute for your friend, then make your tribute, make your peace and damn what the others will do.

It would be fine to do that. I am so sorry for your loss. Do whatever you need to do and don't worry about what others will think. Everyone grieves in different ways and whatever will help you in the healing process I say go for it. I will keep you in my prayers as well as her family. God Bless
