Labor Day is a holiday in some countries. In the US, it's the first Monday of September. The concept of not wearing white after Labor Day is that it's considered inappropriate for the seasons. It generally applies to shoes, a purse, or large quantities like a whole white dress (bridal gowns excluded). It's one of those etiquette things that's falling by the wayside as we get more casual, and live in areas where the weather doesn't cooperate with our arbitrary ideas of what's appropriate clothing for the calendar date.

To go along with the white rule, one should also not wear black on or after Easter, in the springtime. Why, I have no idea, since it makes more sense to describe etiquette-ally sound clothing by the type of season and weather, than by arbitrary dates, but I suppose that, like with rules about how to use your fork and knife, it does make it very clear, what you should or should not do.

Labor day is the Holiday in September. The reason for the comment of not wearing white after Labor day is because Labor day was considered the last summer Holiday. White cloths in the past was associated with being hot, you know hot outside and white cloths are supposed to keep you cooler. So because in New york wear most of the Fashions start it starts cooling down after Labor day and you would look out of place and cold with white on .But know White after Labor day is not looked upon as so bad they call it winter white now.

Traditionally the "white-wearing" season is from Memorial Day through Labor Day. That goes for shoes, purses, pants, skirts, dresses, etc.

We live in a desert state - so don't take that rule at all seriously (some people do change from their white to black flip-flops LOL). Some people wear shorts and sandals for a good 10 months each year.

It only applies to shoes- "no white shoes after labour day". Labour day is a statutory holiday in Canada on the first Monday of September. It's just meant to give workers a long weekend. I assume it's the same in the States. The rule about white shoes is old fashioned, but it might matter to some people you might want to make a good impression on, so it doesn't hurt to know. I don't know how it applies to white snow boots.

Labor day is designated as the first tues. after the first monday in Sept.
The reason that they say not to wear white after labor day is because white reflects light, so in order to stay cooler in the summer, you wear white. In the winter, you want to absorb the light from the sun, so you wear darker colors. The darker the color, the more light is absorbed.

Labor day is a holiday in celebration of organized labor and "blue collar" workers, who are managed by "white collars", hence the no white thing.

It's really a military and government thing to begin with... Whites are for Summer, blues are for winter. That's when the government changes over the uniforms. And society follows suit...
