hiccups are caused by the stimulation of the vasovagal reflex in the body. vaso vagal reflex is initiated when there is a certain movement of diaphragm, as when you need water, this causes the activation of the thirst center and in turn causes spasmodic contractions in the diaphragm you can do many things to correct it, hold your breath and blow out with your nose and mouth closed. jump up and down, and drink water

take a deep breath and hold as long as you can without passing out. Then exhale and do it again. Do this about 6 times and it should get rid of them. Or you can get you a bottle of water and drink it all down, taking big gulps and breathing when you need to, then continue to guzzle. Always works for me.

Drink water upside down. Yes, I know this sounds stupid, but all you do is take a sip(preferably a big one), lean over, so that your head is upside down, and swallow.
I swear, it works every time. If it doesn't try again.

hold your breath, drink a full glass of water....as a kid my grandma always gave me a teaspoon of sugar and it worked for me.
in the hospital, we give people some anti anxiety medication such as xanax, just a small dose. it works most of the time.
