Ya know I'm not the most religious person, not as close to God as I should be. I smoke, I do things with my g/f, I drink, I hang out at bars, I swear. But I still have my roots as messed up as that may sound, and I'm an extremely giving and caring person. The reason for saying that is to try to give ya an idea as to the type of person I am. Considering all of that, I do occasionally read the bible. The reason it seems that everyone has it in for Christians all goes back to the end of times stuff. The bible does say how Christians will be persecuted for there beliefs.... blantant as day. The real source, I don't know that anyone would have that answer. It's all part of God's plan it seems.

I have no problems with Christians; although I am not a Christian, some of my best friends are. What I do have a problem with however, are the people who preach that Christianity is the only way to go. I have encountered many people who have told me that Christianity is the only acceptable religion and that it has only ever done good. There are those who say that anyone who is not a Christian is wrong and will go to hell, which is what a lot of the people on here say. I have actually met Christians who believe that the Crusades and the Inquisition were necessary tools of God. As long as you respect my beliefs, I will respect yours.

While you sir, seem very logical and self contained, many of your breathren aren't in the same mind seat.
However not every person that is a non-christian are the same either. Each side has there nice guys and guys that think you are a moron for not following them.
It's just easier to say Christians are mean since you belong to a group as an athiest can belong to many groups.
For a different point of view check out some of my previously asked questions you will find many different sides of the coin going at it.

This is a good question. I really don't like or dislike any particular group. What does make me give off a blast of incendiary verbiage is people who attempt to sermonize or proceed to tell me the way to salvation. Frankly, the old saying is in public discourse avoid talking religion and politics. And I think it is good advice. Otherwise, somebody is going to get their feelings hurt or feel disrespected. I realize some people are smart alecks here on yahoo. And I readily admit that I have been to. I think that some religious groups are getting a real backlash from trying to legislate their religious beliefs. People who don't hold those beliefs are going to get upset. Everybody's God is not the same. I don't want to legislate any of my beliefs. I want anyone in any religious group to personally live out their religion and dogma. But I do NOT want to live by their rules. Conversely, I don't want them to have to live by my beliefs or dogma. I'm not a Jew, but frankly, I hold them in the highest respect. They are the only group in my opinion that knows how to live and let live. Christians are in the majority in this country. Frankly, many of us who are not, feel hated and scorned at this point. There was nothing in your question that was insulting to me and so I answered you. I wish that all people spoke this way. You have my utmost respect. And you did a really great thing. You started an honest and calm discussion. I thank you.

You are way too sensitive. Is Christianity under attack? Of course. So is atheism, Budaism, Islam ect.ect. Here in the US we have a free market of not only commodities, but also ideas. Just like Pepsi, and Coke compete for comsumers, different ideas such as Christianity and Atheism compete for peoples heads. In the heat of competition, there are going to be people who will attack an opposing idea. As an atheist I constantly question Christianity. Of course Christians continually attack atheism. This is a good thing. That is part of living in a free democracy. It is only when the people want the government to recognize their religion as the official one, or when people quit discussing and start shooting that we start losing our freedoms and indeed our lives.

replies in this, answer it 4 themselves. Parroting of bible scriptures etc is very archaic and shows a very narrow outlook. I spoke before in other q about being of aboriginal aust heritage. I view that the earth, is the central belief. Thats good for me but it goes down to my sense of belief is found in me in what i see and do the things i see and omens i feel. Sounds like we all agree christian religious people feel that connection with their faith in that way 2. Where things go pear shaped is christians have a book ( i think its a bible) that sprouts of many stories. Sum of these say u gotta get eaten by lions to prove yourselves and irritate every1 by conversion. shining ur light to us savage primitives that have no hope for salvation. DO u know how insulting it is my whole life to put up with narrow people saying my culture is evil and must change etc . u people have no idea . look at where ur christianity and muslims meet . 2 religions that again try to push biblical notions of convert or die. I not doing that . Those in the usa support israel all the way so usa christians put george bush in to make war on non christians . check out usa last few war efforts.
Anyway i feel u show by example not ur pushy ways. i do not live my life based on guilt and fear. See i believe in good and bad spirits and understand their place in my world. Christianinty i feel tries to stay on side of good denies any exploration (understanding) of the bad spirits(even just deny and shut out. These are very fundamental differences. that i feel in a world with every1 able to think independantly how can people still run around with the blinkers and wrath on . All armies fight with god on their side. I think a quote a time to laugh a time sumwhere in bible. a time to be everything even wot u do or dont know or want that is understanding and acceptance .

Christians are just like any other group of people that follow a religion. There are moral Christians, there are immoral Christians. There are honest Christians, there are dishonest christian. There are Christians who don't go to church, there are Christians who do go to church. There are Christians who never do anything illegal, there are Christians who break the law on a regular basis.
The point is, people are people.... regardless of religion.
For the record, I'm Jewish.... and when it comes right down to it, we are no different either.
It's the person you are and how you live your life while on this planet that makes you who you are.

I am also a believer, but I have to admit that many of the Christians I read on here come across as heavy- handed, judgmental, and pedantic. Most of them have forgotten that we are called and ordered to love our brethren to the Lord, not beat them over the head with preachy threats of hell and brim-fire.
People also enjoy Christian baiting. We're easy targets, because although we usually have the strong emotional and spiritual commitment, we often do not have the intellectual gravitas to carry off our belief systems.
Peace be with you....

Perhaps the problem is law, for only law is "against" us: Col 2. In comparison and contrast the "grace" of JC is "with" you all.
As for Christ-ians, I wish they'd realize "Christ is the end of the law", and a "false Christ" would be anti-"the end of the law". False Christs shall arise obviously make for false Christians.
Also many so-called Christ-ians are actually Jesus-ians, not knowing there's a big difference between Jesus and Christ:
Jesus: division and not peace
Christ: peace and not division
Jesus: made under the law
Christ: the end of the law
Jesus: risen to on "high" in plural divided "heavens"
Christ: risen to "heaven": "higher than the heavens"
Jesus: called Saviour of Isreal(some only)
Christ: called Saviour of the world(not some only)
Jesus: died by the law: dead end
Christ: died to the law: living end
Jesus: standing right of law/law in Acts.
Christ: seated right of law/grace in Col.
The LORD said unto my Lord: "Sit" at my right
We are not called the body of Jesus.
We are called the body of "Christ".
The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
