Does raised GGT level post serious health condition?

Insurance company is thnking of adding extra charges on my premium. Check with few websites, found that isolated raised GGT is not really that much concern as my ALT & AST is under normal range.

GGT elevations are pretty common, and the docs i have seen typically dont seem too concerned about it. GGT can be elevated in a number of liver conditions, but there are other liver enzyme tests such as AST and ALT that would be elevated as well - these other liver enzymes (AST and ALT) are typically more indicative of liver disease, and docs will look at those values a bit more heavily than GGT. the hospital i work at is in the middle of removing GGT levels altogether from lab sheets because it is so inconclusive of liver function that it may mistakenly cause a patient to start a drug regimen or treatment regimen for a liver problem they dont necessarily have, or dont necessarily need medication/treatment for.

i would be much more concerned if you had a liver panel drawn and your AST and ALT were elevated.

GGT is raised whenever there's an alcohol intake. This could be actually used by arresting officers to determine if a driver is really drunk. So this may not be definitive of any disease. As mentioned, AST/ALT, Bili or the liver function test will help you out if you really have problems with your liver. Hope this helps. :)
