if you have a garage, keep the garbage can out there. Or find a utility closet with a door and stick the can in there. You don't want the dog getting cut on cans etc that may be in the garbage.

Tabasco sauce on the top usually works, or your dog just learns to like Tabasco. The easy solution---Garbage can with a lid.

spray it with a spray from the pet store. Or put ammonia in it and that will break him. He won't like the smell. Or get a big garbage can with a lid

He's a dog...all those smells are wonderful to him. I think it would be impossible to train him to stay out of it.

Spray the garbage w/ amonia or bleach. Also you could sprinkle pepper on it.

set him up to win. dont expect him to not want it, throw all yummy trash outside. put a lid on house trash. i got a counter high trash bin from a kitchen supply store. and still throw all tempting trash outside in the cans.
