Any cat you get must suit your personality and lifestyle.
Then you decide if you want shorthair or longhair. A longhair will shed more than a shorthair. If you are like Monica of Friends, then you will going to end up on your back.
Do you want to spend any money? A pedigree will cost a lot as compared to non-pedigree.
Are your neighbours tolerant of the cats meows? Do you live in apartment or a house? Some breeds are more vocal eg. Siamese.
Do you want a very people-oriented cat? Then it's a Burmese for you.
As you can see there are many considerations. After considering all these factors, then only you can decide the type of cat you want.

I have a Siamese . I got her when she was a kitten. This lady was going to drop her off somewhere and I told her I would take her, she was about 6 weeks old, no name, ect. I thought about a name for 2 days and come up with Sarah. I have had her for 4 years now. Right now she has 5 babies. Sarah is very unique. She fetches like a dog, understands spanish{no kidding} has a personality all her own. Great friend and very loving with me. Siamese are vry smart cats. If you were close to me I would love for you to have one of her kittens. I do not sell them, but I find good homes for her kittens. She also likes to pose for pictures. I put hats on her and she sits still for pictures. When she sees my camera in my hand she will follow me until I take her picture. I am sure you will find the right one for you. You will know when you see the right one for you. Good Luck..I know that the one you pick will have a good home with you....If you notice my handle is call of the wild sarah blue.Sarah is very special to me..

Depending on how you like the cat. if you would like a cat that can play with you and almost not get tired, get an abbysinian or siamese. Their most likely suitable for outdoors. They both tend to like water and travel. if you want a lap cat that will mostly likely go on your lap and be calm rather than bounding around the room, get a burmese or a russian blue. Burmese are always vocalizing that it wants something wit its sweet voice. I love it. A russian blue is on the more shy side of the cats, making it suitable for quiet lives. All of them are fine. i curently have a *Turkish Angora* dat i use for show. I luv it. Get that one. These are only some of the cat breeds that i came up with upon using yahoo cat breed reccomender and cat fanciers web.If you got any further questions please feel free to email me.

Adopt a cat from your local shelter. You'll be giving an adorable animal a second chance at a real life. Unless you're planning on entering your cat in shows, I don't see any reason to go out and buy a specific breed of cat. When you get your cat, please remember to have him/her spayed/neutered. The important thing is to love your cat and you will have a companion for life.

go to the SPCA and they will let you interact with them and it all depends on with cat bonds with you the most because 50 million ppl can tell you a bunch of breeds but you never know which one is right for you untill you spend time with the cat in general. also its all about the cats personality not the breed. i was told siamese cats were mean but my cat is as sweet as can be.

I have two Norweigen Forest cats, they're very affectionate. If you're looking for a lap cat, these are the type to get. They have a thick coat, but not so thick that they shed and you have to brush them a lot.

Go to the local humane society, they have very nice ones.
...but if you want a purebred cat, go to the Cat Fancier's Association website:
http://www.cfa.org/
you can look at different cat breeds and find breeders in your state.

I go Siamese. They are very people-attached (to their own people). And I like cats that talk to you and need to be with you.
