It's not spelled be-log-na.

The origin of bologna comes from Bologna (Ba-Lone-Ya), a city in Italy, where it was first created.

Advertisers first came up with the pronounciation of ba-lon-ny.

As in my bologna has a first name..It's O-S-C-A-R...

Probably the same reason so many other words are spelled different than they sound.
