Its not a formula but a chart. A sieve's mesh size is a standardized method for measuring the size of particles. The mesh size number indicates the number of strands of wire in 1 inch of mesh screen. Higher mesh numbers have a greater number of strands therefore the openings between strands are smaller. Thus a 10 mesh sieve has 1.68 mm openings while a 100 mesh screen has 0.150 mm openings.Particles passing through a sieve are referred to as the minus mesh fraction (eg. -100 mesh) while particles that remain in the sieve are referred to as the plus mesh fraction (eg. +100 mesh).

As for 6000 year old earth, the bible does not say that. The bible actually teaches that this earth age is roughly 6000 years old. The 1st earth age that was destroyed as Satan's rebellion was millions and millions of years old. God knew us from before (Jeremiah 1:5, Ephesians 1:4, Romans 8:29, Romans 9:11-13 - Esau hated before birth due to what he did in 1st earth age, ect.). As for Noah, there are a couple things to consider. For one, the earth was fresh and new in Noah's day. There was no pollution from 500 million cars. The ozone layer had not been depleated and the environment and food supply was not toxic like it is now. God said in Genesis 2:17 that in the day that man ate from the tree of good and evil, he would die. In 2nd Peter 3:8, we find that one day to God is the same as 1000 years to man. If God created the earth in 6 days, that would have been 6000 years to man. (2nd Peter 3 also tells of how the first earth age was destroyed by a flood {not Noah's}). Anyhow, the tree of good and evil was symbolic of Satan, just as the tree of life was symbolic of Christ. No man ever lived past one day (1000 years).
