It could be that you have a fear of tornadoes, or being in a tornado
to be exact. I live in a state that has lots of tornadoes in a typical year, yet the city I live in hasn't been hit in about 50 years. Yet I have dreams about tornadoes quite often--even when the weather is calm. I have a deep facination of tornadoes and when the weather gets bad I like to watch the sky. But I would never want to be in a tornado. I've also wondered what it would be like--what I would do and how everything would happen--should I ever be in a tornado. Maybe these dreams are the subconcious mind playing out those fears and curiosities. That's what I've always thought about my own dreams anyhow. It sounds like a good theory to me.

If you watched the movie "Wizard of Oz" when you were young & very impressionable or for that matter other movies like "Twister," throughout your formative years, then you probably have some residual anxiety about things that remain pretty much out of your "locus of control" and a tornado is pretty emblematic of such a thing: So, any unforseen problems, mishaps, or accidents, that might be of immediate concern to you, might then "surface" in this manner, seeking expression & thus manifesting itself as recurring tornados in your dream-state. I think it may have to do more with your antecedent state of mind than with your "familiarity"(or lack thereof), with this climatological phenomenon.
Ask yourself what events or possible misgivings/worries were on your mind when you had these dreams... next time you have one, write down the circumstances in your life that were precipitating the day before the dream; then, you may begin to see a pattern.... OR, part of you may simply enjoy the "excitement" or "intensity" associated with the tornadic activity, in which case, your mind, on some level. is making the choice to activate the desired dream sequence.
I think both possibilities are equally valid, the queston is whether you can except the largely held belief that whatever is in your dream somehow relates directly back unto yourself & "state of being." Good luck with all that... I take it that these dreams are NOT the cause of any major "sleep disorders" or you'd be sensible enough to seek professional help rather than suffer indefinately with a condition that will cause you harm over time.

You have a suppressed fear of the unknown, and somewhere in your life you were impressed by the danger presented by tornadoes.
Incidentally, they can and have hit in the state of Illinois. Tornadoes always accompany severe and large thunderstorm systems and can happen just about anywhere.
The good news is that your chances of being caught in one are miniscule. I have lived in tornado country for several decades and have only seen one funnel cloud which didn't touch down.
You should concentrate your energies on driving safely, on keeping your home secure. Don't ignore the danger of tornadoes, but don't worry about your dreams.
My worst dream is that I'm in my last semester in college, taking two mandatory classes scheduled at the same time. To attend one I have to cut the other and I'm failing both. Graduating was a big deal to me. That's why I sometimes still have this dream decades later.

You know I have the same problem. I have drempt about tornadoes for the last few years..prob. over a dozen dreams a year. Very odd, and now I am terrified. I read in a dream dictionary and it talks about conflict in your life. But, if that were so wouldnt everyone dream about tornadoes? I dont agree with the dream dictionaries, for the most part they are too vague or dont apply to me. Im not sure what the dream means...or why we dream it. Ive never seen one either and I live in Florida, but Ive been begging my husband to get us one of those underground shelters. He just thinks I'm silly. Hmm...looks like we should be sure never to move near one another.

I never knew so many people dreamt about tornadoes. I've been dreaming about them for 10 or more years. Now that I'm about ready for bed, I'lll probobly dream about them tonight. I've never seen one up close and personal other than on TV. Sometimes my mind creates more maginificent ones that I've ever seen on the screen. So I don't know why we dream what we dream. Apparently it's not too uncommon though. Oh, well. Goodnight.

Your not dreaming about tornadoes. Your dreaming about something ... a sensation possibly. Your brain just gives you an image from memory that describes it. Do you have dizzy spells or a problem with your heart like racing heartbeat.

I used to dream about tornadoes, too. I am terrified of bad weather, though. So, that explains it for me. Look up "dream interpretations" on the internet. That might help.
