I read a study a couple years ago that says this doesn't lead to long-term problems. It just is tough on the eyes because they tire quicker. At least that's what I remember reading. It's not like I'm a doctor of opthalmology or whatever have you, so better not trust me 100%.

Old people tend to lose some or all of their eyesight, regardless of whether they read in the dark. Medical science will eventually solve the problem. So don't worry about it now, because it probably won't matter.

This is one of the funniest tale.
Let me tell it to you this way; Will you damage your ears if you listen to very soft sounds? Of course not.
Now you see how dumb the idea of damaging your eyes in dim lights. Only very bright lights can damage your eyes, such sun light and UV lights.

While it isn't good for your eyes, it does strain them a bit and that could get worse when you get older, it is no worse than sitting staring at a computer screen for long periods of time.

I've heard that if you read or write in the dark it will hurt your eyes. I don't know about the rest.

That's what I was told as a child - but most now say that's just an old wives tale.
