it depends on the store...some accept 8.375% while some accepts 8.625%...the NY state law accepts 8.375% and 4.375 % when u buy clothes whose cost is not up to 110dollars.

note, some stores don't accept taxes at all..ok?

Tax depends on what you are purchasing. All clothing and shoes under $110 is free of both State and City sales tax. Other categories, such as restaurant meals and electronics are subject to the combined rate of 8.375%. There is yet a higher rate attached to parking facilities (I believe in excess of 12%). And outside of NYC proper, sales tax is less than 8%. It's 7.25% in Orange County.

A Lot. I think it has the highest taxes in the USA.
