Every time I go swim in the ocean, a little water gets stuck in my right ear. Usually it drains by the morning. I went for a swim about an hour ago and my right ear hurts and feels like there is water in there. How do I get the water out and relieve the pain? Also, what do I do to prevent this in the future?

Hi there :) It is a real pain when you get water stuck in your ears, however, there are a few things you can use to get the water out.

I can't empathesize enough, please DON'T use a Q-Tip or blow dryer to dry out your ear. These can injure your ear drum and leave you with permanent hearing damage. As a rule of thumb, don't stick anything smaller then your elbow in your ear!

You can try one of the over-the-counter ear drying aids to rid your ear of water. These products contain rubbing alcohol which will dry the inside of your ear. Examples of these are: Swim Ear < http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=12443&catid=94702&trx=GFI-0-AYPPROD&trxp1=1365&trxp2=12443&trxp3=0 > and Auro-Dry < http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=12429&catid=94702&trx=PLST-0-CAT&trxp1=94702&trxp2=12429&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-CAT >. I'm just including this links to let you see what the products look like - you can get these at your neighborhood pharmacy.

If you have a perforated ear drum, please see your doctor before trying any of these products.

Prevention - the best way to keep this from happening is to use a good set of ear plugs (I usually recommend silicon ear plugs to my customers). They'll keep the water out.

Hope this helps!

in case you have self belief ear mites, there's a reasonably inexpensive ear ointment on the vets place of work talked approximately as Eradamite. the final component to do is to purchase a ear flushing answer from the vet, then do the Eradamite. i don't be conscious of what Boric Acid is yet, it would not sound good. After awhile, if the Eradamite would not seem to help the cat, you rather must have the vet see if it has an ear an infection. Then the cat could want an ear antibiotic alongside with Otibiotic. Having a puppy could be high priced if do only maintenance, each and every now and then. I advise you look into puppy insurance or Care credit for pets. in case you are able to no longer take care of to pay for to maintain the puppy healthful and shop habitual checkups and vaccines, the final component you're able to do for the puppy is to grant it to somebody who can shop it healthful.

I've always tilted my head sideways and jumped up and down. It was a trick my uncle taught me when I had water in my ear from swimming in my grandparents pool. I can't tell u how to prevent it cause even I wish i knew that one! Maybe earplugs in the water might help? Pain relief, probably take tylenol or some pain reliever. i'm not someone who takes medicine, i just sleep on it.

jump on one foot and lean your head to the side the water is in. i really don't know why jumping on one foot helps. leaning your head helps with gravity and the jumping motion helps get it out with heach hop. when the water comes out, you will feel a warm feeling. this happens to me also. by the way, here's how to prevent it. when u go swimming, keep your head straight in the water, don't turn it side ways. don't let tthe water in the ear overnight as this can cause infection

Pull the little tab that covers your earhole out away from your earhole. Tilt your head to the right (for your right ear) and jump up and down. It looks weird, but it is usually effective.

try a couple drops of rubbing alcohol. there are OTC drops called "swimmers ear drops". Its made with the same stuff but comes in a handy bottle.

also they make ear plugs specifically for swimmers you might try.

Tilt your head to the right then try yawning...this usually helps me... but I'm not sure how to prevent it. Maybe eye plugs?

my doctor told me to use a mixture of white vinegar and warm water. Worked but you have to do it several times a day.
