Their bodies haven't developed yet. They don't have the muscles or fat tissue that can cushion an impact. A bruise is just a collection of broken vein and cappilaries that pool into what is a contusion. Children, however, are able to heal quicker.

I used to bruise easily as a kid. I was skinny, so that could be part of the problem, but the doctor also said that growing children sometimes get a little anemic, and that can also cause them to bruise easily, particularly as kids also play rough. It happens to adults too, but adults rarely bump themselves as much. Increasing iron in the natural diet or as a supplement (ask doctor) seems to help - at least it helped me. I didn't take supplements, but made sure that I was eating food that allowed my body to get enough iron for its needs. I think that's better than supplements. Don't worry, its not serious.

It could be a lack of iron. My son used to bruise easily when he was younger and the doctor suggested vitamins high in iron.

It's not that they bruise more easily that you or me. It's just the way they play and their inattention to little details around them, like walls, tree branches, other people, etc. When I was a kid my shins looked like kicking posts.

When they run into things they get up and keep going. Part of it has to do with coordination, and also they are a lot more active than most adults. If it gets really bad, or you notice a sudden unexplainable increase, get them a check up. With toddlers I've seen it caused by undiagnosed vision problems.

Because their blood is thicker. I see that your id is christianmom3. From past experience, I would say they are bruising so easily because you're beating them.

I would think that everything is fine, but I would check with your doctor at the next check up. He might suggest iron.

because they don't have a lot of tissue built up around their veins, so they bruise more easily...

Children's bodies are weaker. That is why they bruise so easily.
